Children of Men is by a long shot one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Bleak and emotionally exhausting, but not without compassion or even a sense of humor.

Among the A Scanner Darkly DVD bonus materials, I was quite disappointed to see director Richard Linklater defensively dither over his film not being science fiction, really. Please. How many films like Children of Men will it take before the science fiction genre is recognized for what it can be?
